April Circles

March 31, 2010 6 comments

These fabrics have now been cut and will be mailed to you tomorrow.

For this month, I would like circles. For a bit of inspiration:
1. Detail of “Spot On” Circle Quilt, 2. Roundabout Quilt, 3. Circle Quilt WIP, 4. scrappy circles quilt, 5. Penumbra 1, 6. gelato circles 3, 7. Sew la tea block4, 8. my sister’s quilt, 9. Whirling Spirals Quilted Table Runner, 10. New York Beauty for Jen, 11. ready to quilt, 12. Roundabout Quilt Closeup

You can make circles/ half or quarter circles as simple or complicated as  you like.  Applique or pieced are both fine. If you have enough time/fabric(I think I went a bit overboard on fabric, so you should be good.) I would like two 12.5 inch blocks. I would also like a signature block (5.5 inch) from each of you for the back. For the signature block, any type of block that you wish, just include your name, permanent ink or stitched.

Here are a few tutorials  for circles, applique and pieced.

I’m sure there are more, this was just what I found after a quick search.

FYI, this is going to be a charity quilt. I will be donating the completed quilt to the Hopes and Dreams Quilt Challenge for ALS, sponsored by Quilter’s Dream Batting. Quilts are either given to an ALS patient or used to raise money for ALS research. My uncle was diagnosed with ALS 2 years ago. My brother in law was diagnosed last week with ALS. He is 31.  So, this project is very dear to my heart. Thank you for your help on this!

Am I forgetting anything? Oh, if you want to add fabrics from your stash, I don’t mind. I would like any of my scraps returned to finish up the quilt, though.

What’s New?

March 29, 2010 1 comment

Hi all,

It’s been quiet over here this last week or so, and thought I’d see how everyone is doing.  How are the rest of the mini-quilts going?  Anything in the works for April?

My husband and I moved last weekend, and I haven’t sewn anything in almost two weeks.  I know where my sewing stuff is, but still do not have a surface to set my machine up.  Hopefully by the end of this week =)   I  joined the Portland Modern Quilters Guild, and went to a group-sewing night last week.  Since my sewing projects are sort of on lock-down, I started cutting out fabric to send to you.  They’ll be ready with plenty of time to go out for June – tee hee – but, seriously, I greatly underestimated how much time it would take to prepare packets for everyone!

Hope all of you are well!

Mini Quiltette

Here’s my block for Adrienne. I went searching through her gallery and found a Denyse Schmidt improv quilt she herself had done with like colors; and I really liked it. So I went with a similar design. In her note she had indicated she was especially fond of the flower print~so I chose to center the design around the pretty blooms.

Your mini quilt blocks are awesome. I’m glad to see some posts, I was agonizing over which design I should use (OCD rears it’s ugly head, again) hoping not to duplicate~now I can get started. Nice blocks ladies, they’re so very pretty!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day~

Ants on a Log

March 17, 2010 6 comments

Adrienne sent me four lovely fabrics, including this super cute Ants on a Log fabric.

I agonized, and thought, and sketched, and agonized a little more about what kind of quilt to make with these fabrics.  I’ve been on a pinwheel kick lately, and thought they would be adorable as pinwheels.  I had another geometric pattern sketched out.  But, I’ve been wanting to make the leap and try adding some circles to a quilt, and in the end, this fabric was the inspiration to go for it.  It is pretty minimal, and in general, totally unlike anything else I have ever done.

My husband thinks I should add/embroider antennaes.  =)

I don’t have embroidery supplies, but will get some so I can add my name and send it back.

Thanks for the challenge/opportunity, Adrienne!

fresh little zig zag

March 15, 2010 7 comments

as soon as Adriennes fabric arrived on thursday I dove right in and started cutting. this is the way i usually quilt- very haphazard. I am mostly happy with the result… of course I would be happier if it actually met Adrienne’s size requirements…right now it is 18 by 20. I could cut it down a bit and then add a one inch border of the blue. would that look bad? what do you all think?

please excuse the shadows. it is night time but I really wanted to post…
