The blocks are rolling in… December 29, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Heidi @ 2:27 am

I’ve received two blocks and they are so pretty! Here is a picture of them with the block that I made along with a setting block that I have done.

This is going to be so pretty! I’m so excited.
But remember.. no rush. I know it’s a busy time for people and I still have 11 setting blocks to make. yikes!!
Thank you everyone! You are such talented people.

Week #9 for Heidi December 23, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Nichole @ 2:46 am

I think this is a fun idea.  I received week 9.  I must say, if I had been working on this block for myself (and doing 11 more), I most certainly would not have put as much effort into trying to make the corners line up.  It’s not perfect, but not too bad.  If I do say so myself.

Thanks for putting this one together Heidi! :)

Heidi’s block #11 December 19, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — annamichellequilts @ 5:26 am

Here is the block that Heidi assigned to me, #11. I have to say that when I saw that there were triangles involved, I was a bit nervous. I don’t get along with triangle points very well, but I must be getting better because I am very happy with the result. I hope you enjoy this Heidi!

Finally.. I’m mailing my fabs! December 13, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Heidi @ 4:46 am

I decided on a pattern, picked out the fabric and did the math. Now I’ve finally packaged it all up and it’s going in the mail tomorrow.

Let’s hope I did the math correctly – let me know if you don’t have enough fabric. No worries on getting them back by the end of the month. I’m late getting them out and I know everyone is busy this time of year.

Let me know if you have questions! Happy Sewing!

New Inspiration November 2, 2009

Hi Everyone! I’ve been checking and checking and nobody is posting anything here. I think we’re all mad-busy with work, school, family, Halloween candy overload… I know I haven’t touched my sewing machine in weeks, I just keep looking at it longingly.

red, white & blue flowers -just eye-candy.

Anyway, there are a few sites I’ve been oggling online, so I thought I’d share them:)

http://fortysixthatgrace.blogspot.com/ This one is some recipes, design, fashion, a little sewing… Gorgeous photos and a very spare style.

http://makesomething.ca/ A  Toronto-based girl who owns a sewing shop — both machines to rent in-situ and fabric — and she has lots of great tips on her site. It’s mostly fashion, but some quilting too. I recently bought a Japanese dress book and I cannot wait to use it!!!

http://acardaday.wordpress.com/ One of my newest finds. This British ex-pat makes pretty quilts.

http://naptimequilter.blogspot.com/ Some of you might follow Naptime Quilter already, but she’s another Canadian mum who sews and cooks and blogs. She has some great tutorials and design tips.

Enjoy.

I was contacted today by the admin for a  Flickr group that is a master group for all of the quilting bees in the works.  She’s trying to keep a master list and a large pool of blocks that people can use as reference and inspiration.  You should check it out and add your blocks to the pool! There is some great stuff out there!

Little Pink House for You and Me October 9, 2009

I am really angry at Anna for requesting these. Although she did warn us that the house blocks are addicting, she has really started an obsession on my end. As soon as I started the first block I wanted to make more. Addictive doesn’t even begin to describe how fun these blocks are.

Living in the warm, beach area of the south I decided to make a pink house taking inspiration from 1950s Miami. Jeffery T. (my cat) is peeking out the window. I appliqued him on the window sill so that the edges frayed a little for his fur.

I had some fabric left over so I made a dog house. Again, I appliqued on one of our dogs Black-Eye Pea. She can’t fit inside the dog house because the door is tiny, but that’s OK, she wouldn’t go in there anyway. She would rather be outside chasing squirrels.

Honestly, Anna, thank you so much for asking for these blocks. I really liked the inspiration quilt when I saw it. Unfortunetly I pushed it to the side because I thought they would be too time consuming. Now I know that the fun and enjoyment of making them will really pull me through the many blocks to make for a nice sized quilt. And, boy, could it use up a good chunk of scraps. =]
